Wonton soup is a great comfort food that we purchase from Chinese restaurant but we can easily make at home. I am going to show you how easy it actually is. So you can save the $2 and feed your entire family with this belly warming treat. My version has lots of vegetables, ground chicken, shrimp, and a FLAVORFUL broth! Enough talking, let’s get to the recipe.
What you will you need:
1/2 Pound of Minced, Peeled and Deveined Shrimp
1/2 Pound of Ground Chicken
2 Chopped Green Onion
1 Tsp of Chopped Ginger
1 Tsp of Sugar
1 Tsp of Soy Sauce
1 Tsp of Sesame Oil
1 Tsp of Garlic Powder
1 Tsp of White Pepper
1 Tbsp of Corn Starch
2 Tbsp of Water
Wonton Wrappers
Shallow bowl of water and flour mixed
Broth:
4 Cups of Chicken Broth
1 inch of Chopped Ginger
1 Tsp of Soy Sauce
1 Tsp of Sesame Oil
1 Tsp of Fish Sauce
2 Chopped Green Onion
1 Tsp of White Pepper
1 Tsp of Sugar
1 Chopped Carrot
Vegetables:
3 Baby Bok Choy
2 Large spiraled Carrots
2 Chopped Green Onion
3 Chopped Chinese Broccoli
1 Package of White Needle Mushrooms
1 Package Bean Sprouts
Directions:
Sit a large pot of water on the stove and simmer on low.
In another large pot add chicken broth, ginger, green onion, carrots, white pepper, sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, and sesame oil. Simmer the broth on low for 30 minutes. While the broth is simmering, in a large bowl add minced shrimp, ground chicken, white pepper, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, corn starch, and water. Mix until well combined and sit aside. In a small bowl mix equal parts flour and water. Mix until well combined then sit aside.
Take two damp towels and place wonton wrappers in between to keep moist. Take a tsp of the ground chicken and shrimp mixture and place in the middle of one wonton wrapper. Then damp all sides of the wrapper with the flour water mixture. Fold the wonton diagonal to create a triangle shape. Then take the bottom corners of the triangles and lightly damp them with the flour/water mixture. Fold both damp ends towards the middle one side at a time, Then sit on a floured baking sheet seam side down. Continue and repeat until all of the wonton mixture is gone. This recipe can make up to 40 wonton.
Cooking Wontons:
Place wontons gently into the lightly simmering water and stir gently. Once the wontons float to the top, you can remove them as they are cooked all the way through about 3-5 minutes. In a large bowl assemble carrot zoodles, chinese broocoli, wontons, mushrooms bean sprouts, and bok choy. Then pour hot broth over the top. When you have topped it with broth, then sprinkle green onion over top.
